About

The League of young voters UK was formed in 2014 to address the challenge that not enough young people are registering and voting in the UK. Young people in the UK are simply not engaging in democracy at the same levels as their older counterparts. In the last general election, for example, only 44% of 18-24 year olds voted in comparison to 76% or 65+ year olds, and current voter registration rates suggest that this trend is set to continue.

The League of Young Voters and has set itself some very clear objectives:

  • 1.5 million more young people to join the electoral register
  • 1.2 million more young people to vote by the end of 2015
  • At least 60% of 16 and 17 year olds voting in the Scottish Referendum
  •  A significant improvement in the way all major political parties communicate with young people

The Coalition is led by a smaller group of organisations that meet regularly to plan and develop the campaign. The Steering Group is open to any member of the Coalition that is willing and able to devote more time and resources to the campaign. The group is chaired by the British Youth Council.

We are also part of a wider European Movement of League of Young Voters across the EU. To find out about this please go to: http://www.youngvoters.eu/eu
